Available from May 14 on Netflix, “Halston” looks back on the grandiose life of designer Roy Halston Frowick, an influential personality in the world of fashion during the 1970s. For this mini-series, Ryan Murphy calls on Ewan McGregor.
Before rediscovering Obi-Wan Kenobi’s costume, Ewan McGregor slips into the shoes of a very real legend: Roy Halston Frowick. A fashion figure in the 70s and a regular at the frenzied evenings of Studio 54, the famous designer experienced fame, wealth and a descent into hell before disappearing from the complications of AIDS in 1990, at the age of 57 years old.
This romantic life inspired a documentary, but also Ryan Murphy who offers a mini-series to rediscover the fate of a genius. It must be said that many elements present in the life of Halston respond to the well-known style of the producer. The first images promise high-powered drama in flashy colors and a stunning performance from the Scottish actor – with possible Emmy success?
The program is written by Sharr White and Ian Brennan, Ryan Murphy’s loyal partner. On screen, Ewan McGregor replies to Krysta Rodriguez, who plays his muse, Liza Minnelli; Rory Culkin becomes director Joel Schumacher; Rebecca Dayan plays jewelry designer Elsa Peretti and Gian Franco Rodriguez plays Halston’s companion, Victor Hugo Rojas.
With Halston, Ryan Murphy is continuing his $ 300 million contract with Netflix. After the success of Ratched, the creator and producer ventures into a story that is certainly less accessible, but which should find its audience. Next project: a mini-series about one of America’s most famous serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer with Evan Peters.
