First announced for fall 2020, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was one of those films whose theatrical release had been put on hold due to the pandemic. Produced by 20th Century Studios, the project will finally be released directly on a platform, Amazon Prime Video, on September 17th.
Directed by Jonathan Butterell – of which it is the first feature film – and scripted by Tom MacRae – who will sign the next version of Sunset Boulevard At the movie theater -, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the adaptation of the eponymous musical, which was a huge success in Great Britain. It tells the fate of a 16-year-old teenager who dreams of becoming a drag queen, despite the daily harassment he experiences in high school.
The show is mostly an adaptation of a true story, that of Jamie Campbell, an Englishman who in 2011 was the subject of a BBC documentary called Jamie: Drag Queen at 16. At that time, the team of journalists had followed the life of the young man who wanted to go to his prom as a drag queen. A wish mocked by his comrades and disapproved of by his teachers.
Actor Max Harwood plays Jamie in his very first on-screen role. He is surrounded by Sarah Lancashire (Happy valley, Yesterday), Sharon Horgan (Disaster) and Oscar-nominated actor Richard E. Grant.
