Elon Musk may have serious plans to sell his assets after two luxury homes have been put up for sale in California.
On Friday, boss Tesla included a promise to get rid of his “physical possessions” in a series of tweets.
Now two properties belonging to Mr Musk are located on the Zillow property website with a price tag of $ 40 million (£ 32 million).
It comes when the nonconformist billionaire, 48, and Canadian singer Grimes welcomed their first child together.
“Mom and baby are all right,” he announced on Twitter, a relatively small tweet compared to his other posts in the past few days.
Friday’s tweets included an assertion that Tesla’s value was too high, an observation that could be examined by regulators. It prompted a sell-off of stocks from investors, wiping out $ 14 billion from the stock market value of the electric automaker.
Another tweet said that his girlfriend was “angry” with him, while others bordered on the mystic. He also tweeted his opposition to blocking the American coronavirus, saying in one: “FREE AMERICA NOW”.
Musk’s promise to sell his assets included a home previously owned by Hollywood legend Gene Wilder, which he purchased in 2013.
That house, complete with a swimming pool and guest cottage, is on the Zillow website for $ 9.5 million. The second, described as “on a private hill overlooking the Bel Air Country Club and the city and ocean beyond”, has a $ 30 million sale price.
Los Angeles homes are listed as “for sale by the owner” rather than with a sales agent. This led some people to wonder if Mr. Musk was serious about sales, or even if Zillow’s website could have been hacked. “We don’t know – everyone is trying to find out,” said a real estate agent in the Los Angeles Times.
Musk is believed to own several homes in California. The Wall Street Journal reported last year that he or his companies had spent $ 100 million on seven state properties, many of which were close to his main home.
The birth of his son on Monday adds to the five children he has with his first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson.
Grimes, 32, kept fans up to date during her pregnancy and in February revealed that she had suffered from “complications” and feeling “sadly ill-prepared” for having a baby. Later that month he told fans on Twitter that he would allow the boy to choose his gender.
Musk and Grimes (Claire Boucher), born in South Africa, have been dating for more than two years and have debuted on the red carpet in pairs at the Met Gala 2018.
