Event on Netflix with the arrival on May 27 ofEDEN, the first original anime of the SVOD service. If in the past, other series had been cataloged as original content of the platform, these were in reality only acquisitions made during production and / or international distribution contracts (outside Japanese territory). So, EDEN is the very first Japanese anime designed from A to Z by Netflix.
Several big names in animation have been linked to this American-Japanese production. Thus, the production of the four episodes of the series has been entrusted to veteran Yasuhiro Irie, episode director for the series Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; scripted by Kimiko Ueno (Space Dandy), EDEN is a creation by Justin Leach (animator on the Ice Age films and the animated series Star Wars The Clone Wars).
Portrait of an atypical friendship between a young woman and robots, EDEN seems to be aimed more at a general neophyte audience rather than specialists in Japanese animation. It remains to be seen whether this first foray by Netflix into the original production of Japanese animated content will be successful or not …
