After Ballers, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia join HBO again to produce a series on amateur wrestling. Issa Rae, the star of the Insecure series, is also present. The project, currently under development, is currently called Tre Cnt. Judah Miller (American Dad, Crashing), who will be the showrunner and the screenwriter Mohamad El Masri (Here and Now) works on writing.
According to Variety, the series will tell the daily life of Cassius Jones, a young Houston docker and struggling professional wrestler, who decides to use the money he inherited to recycle his grandfather’s gun shop in the Empire of amateur wrestling centered on hip-hop, with the help of his family of workers, neighbors and friends.
The title refers to the count of three which balances the end of a wrestling match, won when one of the opponents manages to keep the shoulders of the other wrestler on the ground for three seconds counted by the referee who hits three times in the ring; but also in Houston, The Tre, where Cassius’ business takes place. For now, it’s unclear whether Johnson himself will lend his features, as in Ballers, to the hero of the series.
