We start with the obvious: although he receives the visit of another Avenger, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Doctor Strange is obviously the star character of the film of Sam Raimistill embodied by Benedict Cumberbatch.
… and its variants!

But the actor doesn’t just play the Doctor Strange that Marvel fans have come to know. He also slips into the skin of several alternative versions of the character from different universes: Defender Strange, Sinister Strange or even Supreme Strange and Zombie Strange.
wong

Close friend of Doctor Strange, Wong (Benedict Wong) is also in the game. He is also the one who took over the title of Sorcerer Supreme since Stephen was erased from the universe for 5 years following Thanos’ snap of his fingers in Avengers: Infinity Waras we learned in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Mordo
The Walt Disney Company France
In the first Doctor Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor lent his features to Mordo, one of the wizards of Kamar-Taj. In the second episode, the actor is back to play one of the variants of the character. In one of the universes that the hero visits during the film, he therefore comes across a version of Mordo who is part of the council of the illuminati.
Christine Palmer
The Walt Disney Company France
On the poster of the first film devoted to the Master of the Mystical Arts, Rachel McAdams returns to the MCU for this new episode where she plays not one but two roles: the Christine we know (or that of the Earth 616) and its Earth 838 variant.
Nic West
The Walt Disney Company France
Secondary character of the first Doctor Strange, the neurosurgeon Nic West (the genius Michael Stuhlbarg) makes a small appearance in The Multiverse of Madness at Christine’s wedding.
America Chávez
The Walt Disney Company France
Sam Raimi’s film also introduces a new key character in the Marvel universe: America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) aka Miss America in the comics. Little is revealed about her past in Doctor Strange 2, but it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the superhero again with the ability to travel in the mutlivers in a future Marvel production.
Billy and Tommy Maximoff
Disney+
Introduced in the WandaVision series as the creation of the mind of Wanda Maximoff, twins Billy and Tommy return in Doctor Strange 2, still portrayed by Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne.
Rintrah and Gargantos
Marvel / The Walt Disney Company France
Close to Doctor Strange in the comics, the sorcerer’s apprentice with the appearance of a minotaur, Rintrah, appears in the film among the students of Kamar-Taj. He is played by adam hugil. As for the monster Gargantos, it is based on the demonic creature Shuma-Gorath aka the Chaos Lord, a recurring enemy of Strange in the comics.
Professor Xavier
Twentieth Century Fox France / Fox
So it was indeed the voice of Patrick Stewart that we heard in one of the trailers from Doctor Strange 2. The comedian, who played Professor Charles Xavier in 7 films X-Men, thus reprized his role for the first time in a Marvel Studios film. More precisely, he plays in the feature film currently in theaters a variant of the leader of the mutants, here a member of the Illuminati of Earth 838.
During its introduction, several nods to the animated series X-Men 90s have also been slipped in for a guaranteed nostalgia effect! A few notes from the musical theme of the show are thus heard and the character arrives in a wheelchair that looks a lot like his animated version. Additionally, when he uses his telepathic powers, circular ripples emanate from his forehead, just like in the cartoon.
Peggy Carter
Disney+
The great love of Steve Rogers is back! Or, again, one of its alternative versions. Hayley Atwellwho has embodied Peggy Carter in several films and even a series in her name, therefore plays one of the members of the Illuminati of Earth 838, who for the occasion has become Captain Carter, like another of her variants seen in the animated series what if.
Maria Rambeau
The Walt Disney Company France
Best friend of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the original MCU continuity and mother of the character of Monica, seen in the WandaVision series, Maria Rambeau (still played by Lashana Lynch) here interprets the Captain Marvel from Earth 838, member of the Illuminati.
Blackbolt
ABC
Blackagar Boltagon aka Black Bolt is also part of the Illuminati featured in Doctor Strange 2. Known in France as Black Arrow, this Marvel superhero was one of the main characters in the very short series Inhumans where he was played by Anson Mountwhich is therefore one of the variants of the character here.
Reed Richards / Mr Fantastic
Marvel / Bestimage
The last member of the Illuminati seen in the film is none other than Reed Richards alias Mr Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic 4. For the occasion, it is not Ioan Gruffudd who took over the role, or even Miles Tellerbut John Krasinsky ! For years, fans have been campaigning for the star of The Office plays the superhero and they won. It remains to be seen whether he will reprise the role in the future film. 4 Fantastic from Marvel Studios.
Clea
Marvel / Bestimage
last surprise of Doctor Strange 2: Introducing Charlize Theron in the Marvel Universe. The Oscar-winning actress plays Clea, who is, in the comics, a very powerful magician from Faltine, a magical dimension, in which she is the equivalent of the Sorcerer Supreme.
