Discover the 13 feature films selected for the Competition of the 47th American Film Festival of Deauville, which will be held from September 3 to 12.
The Deauville Festival is holding its 47th edition from September 3 to 12 and will offer previews, covers and of course a competition of independent films, the list of which has just been unveiled:
We find in this list a film which passed through the Cannes competition last July: Red rocket by Sean Baker, who had already come to Deauville in 2015 to present Tangerine, which had won the Jury Prize. Return also of Nicolas Cage, to whom the festival had paid homage in 2013 for the whole of his career and who comes to present Pig, a film about a man going in search of his kidnapped truffle pig.
Another regular, the director Justin chon, who offered the solid Gook in competition in 2017, returns with Blue bayou, which was presented at Un certain regard this year in Cannes.
Festival director Bruno Barde commented on the selection, stating that it “reflects the upheavals of time and the legitimate and growing concern of filmmakers. This competition is crossed by laughter, fear, violence, voyeurism, self-quest, sensuality, and sometimes noble feelings, all reflecting the genre and today’s emotions. “
Last year, Sean Durkin’s The Nest, a drifting portrait of a couple with Jude Law and Carrie Coon, won the Festival’s Revelation, Jury and Critic’s Award. The juries chaired by Charlotte Gainsbourg (competition) and Clémence Poésy (revelation) will have the task of finding a successor, which will be done on the evening of Saturday September 11.
The juries and films of the other selections will be unveiled at a later date, but “event films” have already been announced:
