Naya Rivera was born and raised in Santa Clarita, California. At around 9 months, she is already represented by an artistic agent hired by her mother who wants to see her follow the same path as her sister Nickayla, a professional model.
But the little girl ultimately prefers the camera to the lenses of cameras and starts by doing some commercials, before making her real debut as an actress in the series The Royal Family in which she plays Hillary Winston. The success of the program and its remarkable performance enabled her to win the Young Artist Awards for the best interpretation for a young actress. After the series was canceled, Naya Rivera went on to play minor roles on television during the 1990s and appeared in Le Prince de Bel-Air, La vie de famille or Alerte à Malibu.
It was in 2002, then aged 15, that the teenager obtained her first contract in the cinema in the family comedy The Master of Disguise. Unfortunately, the accumulation of his small roles does not allow him to live on his passion. So she works in parallel as a nanny and store hostess.
Five years later, Naya Rivera finally makes herself known to the general public thanks to the musical series of Ryan Murphy, Glee, and in which she plays Santana Lopez, a cheerleader of Hispanic origin, rather acerbic and who struggles to assume his homosexuality. First secondary, her character gains importance over the episodes and she is quickly promoted to main. Her talent for music and her interpretation earned her several awards as a singer and actress. The series also offers him the opportunity to produce his first album in 2011 and present the Glaad Media Awards, proof of his contribution to the LGBT community.
With this new notoriety, the young woman is at the head of the horror film At the Devil’s Door in 2014, her first big role in the cinema. She camps there a real estate agent who finds herself embarked on a dark supernatural story. But she quickly finds her way to the television sets with the dramatic series Step Up: High Water where she lends her features to Collette Jones, a dance teacher whose career ended abruptly after a knee injury.
Her private life unfortunately does not know such a brilliant course since Naya Rivera sees herself accused of domestic violence in November 2017 by her future ex-husband. Charges finally dropped, for lack of evidence.
On July 8, 2020, various American media announced the disappearance and presumed death of the actress via Ventura County. On a ride on Lake Piru in California, only his four-year-old son is found on their boat. According to the little boy, his mother went to swim, but did not return. On July 13, his body was found lifeless, 7 years to the day after the death of his Glee partner, Cory Monteith. She was allegedly the victim of an accidental drowning.
