Born to a mother working in the family store and a father selling supplies, Charles Grodin found his first film role in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1954, that of an uncredited character of a drummer. The young actor then continues with several appearances in series, with in parallel roles in the cinema in rather striking films such as Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Catch 22 (1970), King Kong (1976) or even Le Ciel Can Wait (1978). ).

His roles gaining in importance, Charles Grodin plays an investigator in Sunburn and a lawyer in As in the good old days. Specializing in comedy, the actor is featured in La Grande aventure des Muppets (1981), The Lonely Guy (1984) and Parle à mon psy, ma tête est malad (1988).

In 1988, Charles Grodin found one of his most striking roles in the buddy movie Midnight Run, that of an accountant who managed to defraud a famous mafia boss and that the bounty hunter character played by Robert De Niro is responsible for catching. Grodin then plays the main character of Beethoven 1 and 2, the father of the family with the famous Saint Bernard.
From the mid-1990s, Charles Grodin became rare on the screens. He is still present in a few episodes of the Louie and Madoff series. In 2016, he found someone he knew well in the person of Robert De Niro for the purposes of the comedy The Comedian.

He died on May 18, 2021 at the age of 86, suffering from bone marrow cancer.
