DC and Marvel: Michael Keaton understands nothing about superhero films

While we will find him, 30 years after Batman, the challenge, in the costume of the Batman in The Flash in November 2022, Michael Keaton recently admitted to having had difficulty understanding the scenario of the film.

Rejected many times, the solo film dedicated to Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) is currently being filmed under the direction of Andy Muschietti (It). But we already know that the feature film will show the ultra-fast hero breaking the laws of physics and visiting parallel universes, including one where he will meet Michael Keaton’s Batman.

A big event for all fans of Tim Burton films where the latter played Bruce Wayne. During an interview at Hollywood Reporter, the 69-year-old actor has also confided not to have hesitated for a long time when he was offered to find the character.

Honestly, deep down inside I was always like ‘I bet I could play it again and do a damn good job’. So I thought ‘Well now that I’m asked let’s see if I can get through’”, He says.

AN ICONIC BUT COMPLEX RETURN

However, it took him a while to figure out the storyline that touched on the parallel universes:

I must have read it more than three times before I said to myself ‘Wait, how does that work?’ They must have explained it to me several times. Besides, I’m not arrogant, I hope, about it. I’m not saying that like I’m too cool for it. I am stupid. There are a lot of things that I don’t know. And so, I don’t know, I more or less understood it (…).

And to continue: “What’s really interesting is how much better I understood [Batman] when I replayed it. I understand it on a whole new level now. I totally respect him. I respect what people are trying to do. I never said to myself ‘Oh, this is just a stupid thing’.

It wasn’t something stupid when I made Batman. But it has become a gigantic thing, culturally. It’s iconic. So I have more respect for that, because, what do I know about it? It is of great importance to some people. It must be honored and respected. Even me, I’m like ‘Damn this is huge’”, Says Michael Keaton.

PAUMÉ AT MARVEL ALSO

But the comedian is not just one of the faces of the most famous DC superhero, he also played a villain for Marvel: the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. A role he recently took over for Morbius, expected on January 19, 2022 in theaters.

While filming, he was told about the MCU and the logic behind some of the storylines in that universe, which quickly lost him … “I nod as if I know what they’re talking about. I go ‘yes, yes.’ And I’m thinking, ‘You might as well just explain quantum physics to me right now. All I know is I know my character. And I know the basics’”, Keaton recalls.

And to conclude: “So finally they looked at me, and they started to laugh. They said, ‘You don’t know what we’re talking about, do you?’ and I said, ‘No, I don’t know what you’re talking about at all.’
