After spending seven years on Netflix, “Daredevil” has found a new home: Disney+. The opportunity to give you 5 facts about this great Marvel series to encourage you to (re)discover it!
Aired between 2015 and 2018 on Netflix, Daredevil was part of a large-scale project: to offer mature series on four Marvel heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and iron fist) before bringing them together in a mini-series titled The Defenders. Today, we give you 5 anecdotes about the first show to be released, setting the tone for all the others.
Charlie Cox is not the first Daredevil of the screens
This is charlie coxbest known at the time for the film Matthew Vaughn Stardust, the mystery of the star and the series Boardwalk Empire in which he played Owen Sleater, who was chosen to lend his features to Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who transforms at night into Daredevil and fights injustice thanks to his incredibly developed senses.
He thus took over from Ben Affleck who had played the character in a much criticized feature film, released in 2003, and Rex Smithwho had donned the costume of the Demon of Hell’s Kitchen in the TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk in 1989.
A ratings success
If at the time of the broadcast of the first season of Daredevil, Netflix did not communicate at all on its audiences, analysts have shown that the series carried by Charlie Cox got off to a very, very good start. The proof: only 11 days after it went online, it was renewed for a season 2 to everyone’s surprise.
And when it was canceled at the end of its third season, it was revealed that it was actually still one of the most popular series on the platform. A success that has, moreover, never been denied! Last January, Daredevil even returned to the top 10 of the most watched series in streamingyears after its conclusion.
A Frenchwoman in a key role
After a first season as successful as it was appreciated, a recurring character from the Daredevil comics was added to the second season: Elektra Natchios, already seen in the cinema as Jennifer Garner. And to play this childhood love of the hero, back in his life to help him defeat a secret organization of ninjas called The Hand, the production chose Elodie Yung.
A French actress seen in the M6 series The Blues: first steps in the police and who had already started filming in the United States, participating in particular in Millenium: The Men Who Didn’t Love Women Where GI Joe: Conspiracy.
Among the many qualities of Daredevil, we find his writing, his interpreters, but also a realization with small onions, with in particular particularly well worked fights. Difficult, for example, to forget the fight of season 1 shot in a sequence shot in a corridor or the one, much longerfrom season 3 where Matt tries to escape from prison in the middle of a bloody riot.
The introduction of the Punisher (Jon Bernthal, which then had its own series) in season 2 also allowed anthology fighting scenes. To the point that some were afraid that the violence of the show would be censored for its arrival on Disney+, which ultimately was not the case.
Soon a new season
When Netflix ended Daredevil after its third season, many fans felt orphaned, but a few held on to hope that the Man Without Fear would one day see it on screen again, and they were right!
After many rumors about it, Charlie Cox did appear in a scene from a Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home. And a few months later, it was revealed that Disney+ was going to produce new episodes dedicated to the superhero.
What is currently unclear is whether it will be a real reboot or rather a continuity of the Netflix series, which seems more likely if Charlie Cox is back. It remains to be seen whether his former playing partners (Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson…) will also return and if we can now consider the Defenders series as an integral part of the MCU or if a pirouette will be used.
With the introduction of the multiverse in the studio’s latest productions, anything is possible. But one thing is certain, whether the series that will soon arrive on Disney + is a direct sequel to Daredevil or not, we strongly advise you to take a look at it before!
