While the final season of “Criminal Minds” ends tonight on TF1, the series could (already) return soon to the United States on the Paramount + platform in the form of a revival which would tell only one investigation in 10 episodes.
Barely finished, Criminal Minds should soon return to the small screen in a new form … but with the characters dear to the hearts of viewers.
While season 15 ended in February 2020 in the United States and tonight in France on TF1, the American platform Paramount + (formerly CBS All Access) announced a few months ago that it would revive the series by through a 10-episode revival that would be overseen by Erica Messer, already leading the previous version as a showrunner.
But this new version of Criminal Minds will be marked by a major difference since the profilers of the Department of Behavioral Sciences of the FBI will this time investigate a single case throughout the season, like The Killing or from Broadchurch. Exit therefore the procedural side, with investigations completed in each episode, which nevertheless made the success of the series!
According to Deadline, Paramount +, along with ABC Signature and CBS Studio which produce Criminal Minds, hope to “revitalize the franchise” with a two-year plan that will therefore include this 10-episode revival as well as a docu-series The Real Criminal Minds, centered on a former FBI profiler who will pick up on famous cases. All to surf the trend of “true crime” documentaries.
Casting side, Paget Brewster, the interpreter of Emily Prentiss, recently revealed that all the main actors of seasons 12 to 15 had been approached to be part of the adventure of this new series Criminal Minds. And that most of them were now in negotiations with the platform.
We can therefore especially hope to see Joe Mantegna (Rossi), Matthew Gray Gubler (Reid), AJ Cook (JJ), Aisha Tyler (Lewis), Adam Rodriguez (Alvez), or even Daniel Henney (Simmons) in these new episodes.
Although it seems acted by Paramount +, it remains to be seen whether this revival, still in the development stage, will indeed see the light of day. What if Kirsten Vangsness will be back since her character, Garcia, ended up leaving the FBI at the end of the fifteenth and final season of the original series. Case to follow.
