Creed 3, scheduled to be released in theaters on March 1, 2023, unveils its first images!
“It’s not over until the bell rings!”chanted rocky in the cult saga. The emblematic boxer transmitted this rage to win to his foal, Adonis, who took over from him in the first two parts of Creed.
Indeed, the bell has not yet rung for the sports franchise! After two successful episodes grossing $387 million worldwide, Creed will soon return for a 3rd movieexpected for March 1, 2023. After two first posters unveiled on October 17, the work this time reveals a trailer that hits hard!
After Ryan Coogler and Steven Caple Jr.., Michael B.Jordan took over the reins, directing his first feature film with Creed 3. The actor clarified that directing had always been an ambition for him, but that he had to find the right project at the right time.
“Creed 3 comes at the right time. I’m at a point in my life where I have the necessary maturity, both personal and professional, to embark on my own story. I learned a lot alongside Ryan Coogler [réalisateur de Creed et Black Panther]and more recently with Denzel Washingtonamong other filmmakers I respect”pointed out the neo-filmmaker last year.
“Creed is a saga that resonates deeply with me. I can’t wait to share the next installment in the story of Adonis Creed, as director and headliner, which is a huge responsibility.”he confided, questioned by Deadline in March 2021.
MICHAEL B. JORDAN GOES BEHIND THE CAMERA
Interviewed by us for the launch of the trailer, Michael B. Jordan recalled his enthusiasm at the idea of directing his first film.
“It’s been more than 20 years since I grew up on film sets and so I felt ready to take the next step, that of directing. I really learned during all these years the specificity of each position in the cinema, in front of and behind the camera; what a fantastic education I was able to receive”says the filmmaker.
Michael B. Jordan really felt in him the urgency to tell a story as he felt it and with all the tools made available to the director. He no longer wanted to confine himself to the role of actor.
“I wanted my creative vision to be brought to life on my own. Besides, I’ve had Adonis Creed in my skin for seven or eight years, so I know what I’m talking about and I know where he wants to go. now go”he explains.
“Finally, as a 35-year-old black man, I have so much to say about us, about our society, it was really important for me to speak up. As this film is very personal, I was worried about whether or not the public understood it.
You never know if your experience and your personal point of view can be understood by others. In any case, you have to be honest and tell your vision of the truth with transparency. I hope I have been as authentic as possible”says Michael B. Jordan.
In this new opus, Adonis Creed will have to face a formidable adversary, Damian Anderson, camped by Jonathan Majors. The actor is the future supervillain Kang in the upcoming Avengers films, Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
AN ANTAGONIST FROM THE PAST
“Damian Anderson is not a villain but an antagonist. He’s more of an adversary from my past than a real enemy. Every day Jonathan was ready to go into battle with me, to step into the ring to wage ‘war’. How lucky I was to have her by my side, as a partner in Creed 3. I was also very lucky to have Tessa Thompson again for the role of Bianca”says the interpreter of Adonis Creed.
Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Bianca, Creed’s fiancée. As for Phylicia Rashad, she will once again play Mary Anne, mother of the boxer. Moreover, if Creed 2 was released 3 years ago, the story of the 3rd installment will jump 7 years in the future.
“We had seen Bianca and Adonis fall in love and have a child. We had to jump back in time a bit to witness a new beginning, a new direction in their lives. I thought it would be interesting to find them in a crossroads in their journey and that it could be their next step”emphasizes Michael B. Jordan.
“I wanted to see what their choices would be in the face of the new professional and personal challenges that stand in their way. And of course this is also due to a parallel with my own life with the situation in which I find myself at the moment in my career. and in my private life”says the artist.
ROCKY HUNG UP THE GLOVES
As for Sylvester Stallonehe does not resume his role of Rocky in this 3rd episode of the franchise. “There will always be the spirit and the very essence of Rocky in this saga. There will always be a bit of Rocky in Adonis Creed”said Michael B. Jordan at the microphone ofIGN Last year.
“However, it’s a Creed franchise”he continued, “We really wanted to build this story and this universe around Adonis to allow him to move forward, to emancipate himself.” The director went on to recall the love and esteem he and his crew feel for Stallone and the character of Rocky.
“We have a lot of respect for everything he has built. Now we want to highlight Adonis and his family. And I think the public will like what we are preparing. It will be a really special episode”he concluded.
See you in the ring on March 1, 2023.
