Captain Marvel 2: when will The Marvels sequel be released? – Cinema news

While TF1 is broadcasting “Captain Marvel”, its sequel entitled “The Marvels” will be released in cinemas in July 2023. It is therefore time to take stock of the film, while waiting for its trailer to be revealed.

In March 2019, Marvel launched one of the strongest characters in its Cinematic Universe on the big screen: Captain Marvel. Staged by Ryan Fleck and Anna Bodenfrom the independent circuit, the first opus of the MCU featuring a superheroine at the top of the bill is experiencing a meteoric rise in the world and ends its run with 1.128 billion dollars in revenue.

A sequel is obviously under construction for the heroine embodied by Brie Larsonwhich is also illustrated in Avengers – Endgame. But the feature film, titled The Marvelshas experienced some turmoil due to the Covid pandemic, like many others since 2020. It is now on the right track, and it is time to take stock as TF1 is broadcasting the first opus this Sunday, September 18.

WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?

After several postponements, The Marvels finally seems to have settled down. And the film should therefore be released in our theaters on July 26, 2023. As a result, and contrary to what seemed to be announced at first, it will belong to Phase V of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since the IV will end in November from this year at the cinema, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

WHO REALIZES?

Exit Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck! Despite the success of the first opus, the two directors do not return behind the camera. After approaching Olivia Wilde and Jamie BabbitMarvel Studios has finally set its sights on Nia Da Costato whom we owe the recent candy man. She thus becomes the first black filmmaker to stage an MCU opus.

WHO PLAYS IN IT?

Inducted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019, as a character announced a few months earlier, in the post-credits scene ofAvengers – Infinity War, Oscar winner Brie Larson will of course be back as the headliner. But she will not be alone, since other characters endowed with the same powers (or variants) will be there: Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), seen in Wanda Visionand Kamala Khan, aka Miss Marvel, heroine of the series of the same name, which aired on Disney+ in June.

Miss Marvel (Iman Vellani) arrives at the cinema

The Marvels will then become the first feature film of the career of its interpreter, the sparkling Iman Vellani. As the images unveiled during the D23 have confirmed, the British Zawe Ashton (The Handmaid’s Tale) will be the villain of the story, whose identity has not yet been revealed. And Samuel L.Jackson should be cast in the role of Nick Fury, which is not more surprising than that, since he was the one who teamed up with Carol Danvers when she arrived on Earth, with her new powers, in the first opus.

WHAT WILL IT ABOUT?

At this time, The Marvels does not yet have a synopsis. Officially. But the post-credits scene of the last episode of season 1 of Miss Marvel already gave us a first indication, when Carol Danvers appeared in Kamala Khan’s room, while the latter was visibly thrown into the confines of space. According to the trailer unveiled during the D23 (but only to those present on site), the feature film will begin in a joyful mess, with heroines who will take each other’s place because of the paradoxes linked to the fact that they have more or less the same powers.

Because The Marvels will not be a multiverse movie Spider-Man No Way Home, insofar as Carol, Monica and Kamala coexist in the same reality, unlike the three Peter Parkers. Rather than “body swap” to the freaky fridaythe feature film will opt for the “place swap”, with characters projected from one place to another, without being able to have the slightest control over events. At first, of course.

Incredibly complex, nuanced, and badass characters

It is not yet clear how the villain played by Zawe Ahston will fit into the story. Nor the repercussions The Marvels will have on the rest of the MCU, as Fantastic Four will be approaching, and that the word “mutation” was spoken in the last episode of season 1 of Miss Marvel, while resounding the musical theme of the animated series X-Men 90s. But for all that, we will probably have to wait until July 2023.

Passing by our microphone, on the sidelines of the Marvel panel of the D23, Brie Larson promises us “incredibly complex, nuanced, and badass characters! These incredible women who come from different places but must learn to work together to solve a problem beyond them. It’s beautiful, funny, and awesome.” Still a little less than a year to wait.
