At 80, good luck, Ruggero Deodato embarks on video games, returning to the genre that made him famous: cannibal horror films. The name of the future game? Cannibal, quite simply.
The sulphurous Italian filmmaker has long sought to make a fourth part of his cannibal saga, after The Last Cannibal World (1977), Cannibal Holocaust (1980) and Amazonia, the white jungle (1985). So it will ultimately be a video game, under the auspices of an Italian development studio called Fantastico Studio. “Meeting the people of Fantastico Studio gave me the opportunity to return to these atmospheres and these themes, but by trying something new. Contaminating the language of video games with my world is a new challenge, making the story interactive offers new possibilities and I hope it will also help young people to get closer to my narrative universe “ explains the octogenarian filmmaker.
Announced for the month of November 2020 on PC, PS4, X Box One, Switch and even smartphone, Cannibal will be a graphic adventure / horror game, in which the player will follow the misadventures of a group of individuals by controlling them in turn, while the latter have embarked on an expedition to the heart of the jungle of Borneo to Obviously discover the habits and customs of local cannibal tribes … The story is written by the director, and will be illustrated by the artist Solo macello.
