A must-see professional platform for the Cannes Film Festival, the Marché du Film 2020 will offer its participants an Online edition, organized at the end of June.
The track had been mentioned from the start of the confinement linked to the health crisis of COVID-19: the 2020 Film Market, an unmissable event every year on the Croisette, will offer an Online edition this year “organized in concert and with the participation of many professionals from around the world.”, according to the Delegate General of the Cannes Festival Thierry Frémaux.
Offered from June 22 to 26, the virtual event will be open to sellers, producers, distributors, institutions and other industry professionals, with accreditations at a price of € 95 (early bird rate until May 29) and then 195 € (normal rate), including one year subscription to Cinando).
It will offer meetings and connecting participants through live video, secure online screenings, virtual stands, digital pavilions, programs and conferences, “speed meetings” around composers, book publishers and producers, as well as a Cannes XR space dedicated to VR and immersive experiences.
For Jérôme Paillard, Deputy Director of the Film Market, this Online Market “will not replace the Cannes experience, but we are recreating part of its essence online by offering professionals an efficient and effective platform to show films, buy them, finance projects, find partners. It is also experimentation with a new market model that will allow professionals who did not have the means or the time to come to Cannes to participate“.
The Cannes Film Festival, which was originally scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23, is continuing its reflections on the “new forms” that the 2020 edition could take, while the parallel sections (International Critics ‘Week, Directors’ Fortnight and ACID) officially canceled their outfit a few days ago.
