Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Canal +: what can we expect from season 8, which will be the last?

One last lap. Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to our screens with a season 8, which will also be the last for the detective comedy. AlloCiné was able to see 3 episodes in preview.

Here we are. NBC has just launched the broadcast of season 8 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which will also be the last. Ten little episodes to say goodbye to the squad of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg). And for this last lap, the writers have put the small dishes in the big ones.

Black Lives Matter

We announced it in June 2020, Dan Goor and Michael Schur – the two showrunners of the series – had decided to completely rewrite the first three episodes of season 8 that they had already completed, in order to include a story linked to the death of George Floyd, this African American killed by a police officer in May 2020.

This is not the first time that the small window has taken hold of the subject, as much on the side of the drama as of the comedy. It remained to be seen how the writers were going to include this in the adventures of 99. And finally, the series preferred to put aside the comedy to offer us some moving scenes, in particular through the characters of Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Holt (Andre Braugher) ).

In the 3 episodes that we were able to see, the series tackles police violence head on and sets out to demonstrate – not without humor – how the system is favorable to the police. B99 also introduces a new character played by John C. McGinley: he plays a captain of the Syndicate responsible for defending the interests of the wearers of the blue uniform.

Changes for our heroes

The death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement will also have had an impact on the trajectory of certain characters. Events that will indirectly impact the couple of Holt (that Jake will try somehow to save) and Rosa, who will make an unexpected decision in this season 8.

Parenthood will also be at the heart of these 10 episodes. The arrival of Mac, the child of Jake and Amy, will change the life of the two lovers … but also that of Boyle who has some advice to give!

The Covid at 99

The series will not fail to make some winks and reference to the global pandemic that we are currently experiencing. Especially in a scene, where Boyle and Peralta, masked, give us some advice to respect sanitary distances (to their sauce!). It is not so rare to observe in the background some extras wearing masks …

Rosa and Jake, a duo that will be missed.

One Last Ride (title of your sextape)

This is the theme of this last season: a last tour of the track with our heroes of the 99. And if we are to believe the actors, these ten episodes are dedicated to the fans, which allowed the rescue of the series there is a few years. NBC, which then bought the broadcasting rights, made it possible to give the comedy an end worthy of the name:

The end is truly rewarding. It’s a huge thank you and a “we love you” to our fans. She pays them homage, it’s funny, it’s beautiful and sad at the same time. The writers really did a great job“says Melissa Fumero (Amy) in this interview.

And if season 8 will mark our farewell with the series and its characters so endearing (yes, even Hitchcock and Scully will be missed!), Terry Crews (Terry) has expressed his desire to make a Brooklyn Nine-Nine movie afterwards. : “I think we would all like that. I’m hot for a movie. I think we deserve to start the discussion!“.
