According to The Wrap and Variety, Puerto Rican director Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) was hired by Warner / DC to direct this “first film with a Latin superhero” headlining. This is the 3rd Blue Scarab, Jaime Reyes. This character was born in 2006, taking over from the historic Blue Beetles, Dan Garret and Ted Kord.

Reyes was created by Geoff Johns, Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner. He’s a clumsy student who’s a huge Batman fan. He possesses superpowers from a mysterious alien blue beetle. The latter attaches to his host’s spine, granting him super-armor. Thanks to her, he fights against crime and the underworld in El Paso, Texas.
