Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys 3, Ms. Marvel) were chosen to direct Batgirl, the new DC version for HBO Max.
The Batgirl project is finally moving forward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros has just signed a contract with the two directors who will be responsible for adapting the adventures of this DC super-heroine to the screen. It is therefore Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who created a surprise in 2020 with Bad Boys For Life ($ 426 million at the global box office).
The two Belgian filmmakers of Moroccan origin are in demand from everywhere: they have just finished filming Ms. Marvel, of which they are the co-showrunners, a Disney + series expected by the end of the year on the platform of streaming.
The film Batgirl, which should only be seen on HBO Max, will follow the adventures in Gotham of Barbara, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon. Warner has not yet announced the name of the one who will slip into the heroine’s tight-fitting costume, although some names have circulated in recent years, including those of Daisy Ridley and Kristen Stewart.
Joss Whedon had been attached to directing for a while before retiring for lack of ideas. Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey) was ultimately chosen to write the screenplay.
