Did you notice these details hidden in the film “Army of the Dead” directed by Zack Snyder, to find now exclusively on Netflix?
The film opens with a mysterious convoy leaving the famous Area 51. The two soldiers try to guess what they are carrying and evoke Ra’s bumblebee medallion and the Holy Grail, two artefacts that Indiana Jones finds in Les Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
Wink at Romero?
Their theory is ultimately that of an alien, and they do not believe it so well because we can indeed see two spots of light in the sky that fly away when the convoy leaves area 51! This possible extraterrestrial origin harks back to Night of the Living Dead, George Romero’s original zombie movie in which scientists believe the epidemic would come from outer space. This could partly explain the baby blue zombie who evokes more aliens than the living dead!
Even more enigmatic: Zombies with glowing blue eyes can be seen several times, and when Guzman kills one of them, it is clearly seen that it is a Terminator-like robot with an exoskeleton and Sparks !
And since we have cyborg zombies created by alien zombies, why not jump into parallel universes and time paradoxes! This is in any case what seems to indicate the presence of the second team sent by Tanaka in the vault room of the casino. The corpses appear to be those of the protagonists since one wears Scott’s bandana, another wears Maria’s pendant and the last wears Marianne’s Hawaiian shirt. Why ? Something tells us that this story still has some secrets to reveal to us!
Justice League’s infamous Snyder Cut, released a few weeks ago, has been fantasizing DC comics fans for years. This director’s cut version was not yet confirmed at the time of filming.Army of the dead, which did not prevent the director Zack Snyder to hide the reels in the vault room of the casino, here on a shelf!
Another nod to Justice League: The Omega symbol on Vanderohe’s chest is reminiscent of the villainous Darkseid. It also announces the final twist and its transformation by the zombie Alpha: Alpha, Omega… the circle is complete.
Army of the Dead draws its inspiration from the great classics of SF, starting with Aliens the return with again a large company that sends a traitor among the team whose real mission is to capture an alien. The character of Chambers is also a carbon copy of Vasquez in James Cameron’s film, bandana, tank top, machine gun, everything is there!
Zeus / Caesar, same fight!
The image of the zombie Zeus on horseback, spear in his hand will necessarily remind you of The Planet of the Apes.
Once is not customary, the director Zack Snyder directed the film’s photography himself on this film, which didn’t stop him from inviting his usual cinematographer Larry Fong for a little cameo as a magician on a gigantic poster in Las Vegas. But that, of course, you had noticed… right?
