While the first Ant-Man airs tonight on TMC, the third solo adventure of Paul Rudd’s character is currently filming. But what do we know about this new opus? From its release date to its casting, we tell you everything!
A loyal director
If it was Edgar Wright who had started the development of the first Ant-Man, working on it for several years, the director of Last Night in Soho ended up leaving the project before being replaced by Peyton Reed.
And it is in a long-term relationship with Marvel that the latter launched himself since he also signed Ant-Man and the Wasp and he is again at the head of the third installment, entitled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and currently filming.
Feedback and news!
Of course, Peyton Reed will once again direct Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. But also Evangeline Lilly (the Wasp) and Michael Douglas (Hank Pym). Arriving in the second episode, Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne) will also be back.
If some other recurring actors of the previous sections, like Michael Peña or Bobby Cannavale, have not yet been officially announced to the cast, it would be surprising not to find them there. On the other hand, we know that TI, who played one of Scott Lang’s acolytes, will not return: the actor and rapper was removed from the project a few months ago because of accusations of sexual abuse against him. .
Another actress was not recalled for Quantumania: Emma Fuhrmann, who played the hero’s daughter in Avengers: Endgame. The character will not be absent, he will simply have a new face. This is the revelation of Freaky, Kathryn Newton, who will now play Cassie.
Finally, Jonathan Majors was announced in the role of Kang the Conqueror: a very powerful supervillain, come from another planet, able to travel in time and to duplicate in the multiverse. The actor will not make his first steps in the MCU in the film since he has already been seen in the Loki series where he plays a variant of Kang, The One Who Remains. This character is already teased as the new Thanos, the new great antagonist of the Marvel universe.
In addition, Bill Murray could appear in this episode if one is to believe the recent declarations of the actor, who has apparently he ventilated a well-kept secret of the House of Ideas. It remains to be seen whether this is a significant role or a simple cameo!
A mysterious plot
As often with Marvel, the plot of this Ant-Man 3 is shrouded in mystery. The title, Quantumania, however lets guess that the quantum dimension (“Quantum Realm” in English), at the heart of the plot of the second opus but also of Avengers: Endgame, will again have its importance in history.
The presence of Kang also suggests some time travel or the multiverse, a concept developed at length in Loki and that we will find in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before Ant-Man 3.
It is also rumored that the feature film will see the transformation of Cassie Lang into Stature, a superheroine able, like her father, to change size at will.
A postponed release date
Originally scheduled for February 17, 2023 in the United States, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will be one of the last films of Phase 4 of the MCU, will finally be released on July 28 of the same year.
A postponement that is not isolated: almost all the next Marvel have indeed been recently shifted, in order to give more time to the teams to refine their films. Fans will therefore need a little patience before finding their favorite superheroes on the screen!
