Always there for you on Netflix: what happened between Tully and Kate at the end of season 1?

The beautiful friendship of Kate and Tully shatters at the end of season 1 of “Always there for you” but the viewer does not know why. The book from which the series is adapted may well give us the answer.

Warning, this article contains spoilers for Season 1 of Always There For You and the book Firefly Lane.

Always There for You, the Netflix series, is the adaptation of a novel written by Kristin Hannah in 2008, about the story of friendship through the ages of two women who are opposed: the dynamic Tully and the reserved Kate , two heroines on screen by Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. If everything seems to be going for the best between them during season 1, the last episode lets us understand that they are in the cold, because of an “unforgivable” betrayal committed by the TV presenter. We will have to wait for a possible season 2 to find the answer or go take a look at the novel …

In the book Firefly lane, Tully decides to invite Kate and her daughter Mara on the set of his talk show, so that they can discuss and solve their problems. Without telling her best friend, Tully brings a psychologist on set. The latter then points to the way Kate raised her daughter, finding her over-protective. This is too much for our forties who decides to leave the set. She then blames Tully for making her look like a bad mother in front of millions of spectators. A humiliation and a betrayal that she will take years to forgive. On the other hand, Tully doesn’t understand why her best friend reacted like this.

If Always there for you takes some liberties with respect to the original work, we can still think that the writers will keep this element, which says a lot about the psychology of these two characters, and will perhaps add new elements. We will have to wait a little longer before finding out since Netflix has still not announced the renewal of the series for a season 2.
