The filmmaker’s 8th production follows Laurent (Jérémie Rénier), a brigade commander of the gendarmerie in Etretat, who plans to marry Marie (Marie-Julie Maille), his companion, mother of his daughter nicknamed Poulette (Madeleine Beauvois) .
He loves his job despite a daily confrontation with social misery. While trying to save a farmer who threatens to commit suicide, he kills him. His life will then change …
Presented in competition at the last edition of the Berlin Film Festival (which was first held online in March, then with public screenings in June), the film features an impressive Jérémie Rénier, very aptly embodying the torments his character faces. The actor will also be showing in The Enemy by Stephan Streker on September 29.
Xavier Beauvois’ Albatross will be released on November 3, 2021.
