Zack Snyder has announced that he would like to adapt Frank Miller’s comic book The Dark Knight Returns into an independent film without Henry Cavill and without Ben Affleck.
Published in 1986, this 4-volume comic takes place in an alternate continuity and features Bruce Wayne at the age of 55. Batman comes out of retirement and returns to fight crime and police in Gotham City. He will have to face old enemies and new ones.
A film without Henry Cavill and without Ben Affleck
Asked for the podcast Happy Sad Confused, the director clarified that if this film was made, neither Henry Cavill (Superman), nor Ben Affleck would be involved in the project.
The comic-book The Dark Knight ReturnIt was a great inspiration for Snyder’s film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Yet the director still dreams of adapting the original comic into a full-fledged film with a whole new cast.
Although it is not yet clear whether this film will see the light of day, the idea of a stand-alone true to Miller’s work, much like what Snyder has done with Watchmen – The Guardians before, might get fans excited.
