“HPI”, it’s over! But there are other series with supra-intelligent heroines that you may still have to discover.
Alex Dunphy (Modern Family)
The second child of the Dunphy siblings, Alex is a brilliant student, extremely gifted in school, independent and gifted in many disciplines. Whether it’s lacrosse, playing the saxophone, oratorical jousting, French language (even Elvish!) Or singing, Alex is clearly unbeatable.
She’s played by Ariel Winter, and you can find the first eight seasons of Modern Family on Disney + and the first ten on Prime Video. Completed, the series has 11 in total.
Amy Farrah Fowler (TBBT)
During her first appearance in season 3 of The Big Bang Theory, Amy (Mayim Bialik) is only a female version of the character of Sheldon Cooper, she expands over the seasons. A brilliant neuroscientist, she is at first as intelligent and as condescending as Sheldon. She develops feelings towards him, in a relationship … complicated.
A Harvard graduate, Amy is also an informed cinephile who devours French heritage cinema and appreciates medieval poetry. Although she often makes comments that are embarrassing to her audience (at least in the first few seasons she appears), she is much more sociable than her companion. She will remain present until the end of the show.
All 12 seasons of the show are available on Prime Video.
Cristina Yang (Grey’s Anatomy)
First an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, Dr. Yang later specialized in cardio-thoracic surgery. The best member of her class, she’s shown to be so competitive as to make gaps, but she’s an outstanding surgeon, something everyone at Seattle Grace readily acknowledges.
Cristina Yang is endearing that she sometimes has trouble dealing with strong emotions and the relationship between doctors and their patients. Sandra Oh, who plays her in Grey’s will entrust in 2007 :
“I always tried to play Cristina with a mixture of a lot of focus and ambition, which is the reality of a surgeon’s life. By that I mean that in the real world, you don’t meet any. few but the ones you meet are at the top of their game. And it takes a bit of an ascetic personality to survive. “
The first 16 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy are available on Disney +. Cristina appears in the top ten.
Jemma Simmons (Marvel: Agents of SHIELD)
Even if the series has just been “decanonized” by Marvel Studios, Agents of SHIELD will have found its own tone and deserves to be discovered, especially from season 3. We owe him in particular the formidable character of Jemma Simmons ( Elizabeth Henstridge), super-intelligent biochemist and one of the best of her SHIELD class
She forms with Fitz, her fellow engineer, a duo of shock nicknamed “Fitzsimmons”, but has her own talents which make of her an independent and indispensable member of the team of agents. Pragmatic, rigorous and seeing the positive in the worst situations, Jemma has only one flaw: she does not know how to keep a secret.
The first six seasons (out of 7) are available on Disney +.
Patty Hewes (Damages)
If the characters so far cited were rather benevolent, welcome to the cruel world of Damages, in which you will meet the formidable lawyer Patty Hewes. Portrayed by Glenn Close, she heads one of New York’s most powerful law firms and puts all her talent and intelligence into her work.
Sacrificing her personal life to her professional career, Patty Hewes will stop at nothing to showcase her skills in a world she herself describes as predominantly male. She puts all her talent to bring to justice the corrupt and dishonest individuals of the planet, and this by all means, more or less legal.
However, she will show over the seasons that she is more human and more sensitive than it seems at first glance. The series is available for purchase on Rakuten TV and iTunes.
