Acapulco on Apple TV +: “a series full of hope and which shows that your dreams can …

Available this Friday on Apple TV +, Acapulco is a comedy about a young Mexican who sees his dream come true working in the most beautiful hotel in a Mexican seaside resort. Meeting with the actors.

Inspired by the film How to Be a Latin Lover – already with Eugenio Derbez – Acapulco is a comedy that brings back the kitsch of the 80s by telling the youth of Maximo, a Mexican from a modest background, who gets the job of his dreams in the most beautiful hotel complex in Acapulco.

The story is told from the point of view of adult Maximo, played by Eugenio Derbez, and who sees the young Maximo (Enrique Arrizon) discovering the codes of high society between whims and exuberance.

Acapulco, a series created by Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros, Jason Shuman with Enrique Arrizon, Eugenio Derbez, Camila Perez, Fernando Carsa, Chord Overstreet and Jessica Collins.

AlloCiné: Can you introduce us to Acapulco?

Fernando Carsa : It is the story of a young man, Maximo, who finds a job in a hotel complex called Las Colinas, in Acapulco, the mythical seaside town of Mexico. The series takes place in 1984. Maximo will discover that beyond the “bling bling” and glamor side of Acapulco hides other realities. I think it’s a show that’s full of energy and sunshine, perfect for the post-covid period we’re going through.

Camila Perez : It’s a series full of hope and shows that your dreams can come true if you know how to fight and never give up. It is also a series that shows that you must always be whole with yourself and always know how to show love towards others.

Enrique Arrizon : It’s a series on the golden age of Acapulco, which was the number one destination for all Mexicans but also for big international stars. It was truly the “fiesta” capital of the world during the summer with parties in iconic clubs.

Chord Overstreet : This is a series on the notion and the importance of the family. All that it represents. How we can’t live without each other.

Jessica collins : It is indeed a series on the search for happiness, the hunt for dreams. I loved playing the role of Diane who owns this resort, Las Colinas with her son Chad. This woman left everything to buy this property and make it totally heavenly. It was a dream to live for 3 months in this place, rented by the production, to be able to work but also to be able to enjoy the swimming pool and the beach in our moments of relaxation.

Tell us about the shoot and what does Acapulco represent for you?

Camila Perez : We shot in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, not Acapulco. With the covid it was a bit complicated because we were in this hotel rented for the occasion for 3 months, without leaving it. But since I’m Colombian, it’s been a pleasure spending all this time with other Latinos and in Mexico. For me, Acapulco reminds me of the successful singer, Luis Miguel, who talks about Acapulco very often. Acapulco is synonymous with family vacations, Acapulco is the dream!

Fernando Carsa : Yes, that’s Acapulco, the city where all your dreams come true. The shooting was intense and we had a lot of torrential rains. And with these rains, we had invasions of frogs of all kinds. Species of frog that I had never seen before, of all sizes and colors.

Enrique Arrizon : Acapulco represents all my childhood to me. We spent all school holidays there with my family. It is the ideal place, even today, for children during the day with the multiple beaches and water activities. In the evening, it is paradise for adults with a multitude of clubs where you can dance until dawn.

Chord Overstreet : I have never been to Acapulco but for me it represents a mythical place where Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra used to party. It’s a bit like the Las Vegas of Mexico.

Ultimately, what do you hope audiences will take away from this series?

Camila Perez : I hope the public will remember that it is worth the sacrifice to make your dreams come true. You really need to believe in the possibilities in life. Let us still dare to dream after this intense covid crisis.

Enrique Arrizon : I hope that the public will discover a different face from that portrayed by the media with the problems of drugs and violence. Of course there are problems, but there are similar problems all over the world. Mexico remains a dream destination and Acapulco is its capital. It also feels good to have a light and humorous series. Especially when you see so many series with violence and grayness. Our show is a good breath of fresh air.

Chord Overstreet : Our series is pure escape, it’s a well-deserved vacation after what we’ve all just experienced.

Jessica collins : Yes, may our series give you a big smile!

Eugenio Derbez : I hope our series will bring you lots of sun and good humor.
