From Loki to Nick Fury, take a look back at 8 Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who seemed to have gone off the rails, but ultimately came back to life.
Sometimes, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when we thought we would never see them again, certain characters who seemed to have breathed their last breath before our eyes come back to life. From Loki in Thor: The Dark World to Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we take a look back at 8 MCU protagonists we thought were dead but really weren’t.
In Thor: The Dark World, after fighting the terrible Malekith alongside his brother, Loki dies in front of the latter, slain by the colossus Algrim. At least that’s what the god of mischief tries to make us believe. This is actually a new scheme, as can be seen in the last seconds of the film, where Loki reappears alive, on the throne of Asgaard, and in the guise of Odin.
Note that much later in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after being killed for good by Thanos at the start of Avengers: Infinity War, Loki somehow manages to return once again. Indeed, thanks to an anomaly caused by the temporal breakage of the Avengers in Endgame, the Loki of 2012 manages to flee with the Tesseract and becomes a Variant, thus escaping his fatal encounter with Thanos.
Thrown into the void by Thanos on Vormir to allow the latter to obtain the Stone of the Soul, the adopted daughter of the Mad Titan is also back in the MCU thanks to the temporal heist of the Avengers.
Having left at different times in the Marvel timeline to retrieve the Infinity Stones, the latter involuntarily offered the possibility to Thanos of the past, as well as to Gamora, to join their reality. Enough to allow the Guardian of the Galaxy embodied by Zoe Saldana to join the final battle ofEndgame.
Relieved of his forehead gem by Thanos at the end ofInfinity WarVision had fallen dead before the eyes of Wanda and the spectators, who thought they would never see him again.
It was without counting on the immense psychic powers of his beloved who, combining his grief with his mental capacities, had managed to recreate his companion from scratch and to settle with him in a charming little residential pavilion. , in the WandaVision series.
Steve Rogers’ comrade-in-arms, Bucky Barnes takes a seemingly fatal fall in a train attack in 1943, while trying to stop HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola alongside Captain America. 70 years later, what is the surprise of the latter when he sees his former friend reappear in the form of a terrible fighter named the winter soldierand equipped with a fearsome mechanical arm?
Indeed, having miraculously survived his accident, Barnes was picked up and altered by Zola, who ended up brainwashing him and making him a destructive weapon against his own side.
At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, when the battle against Ronan rages and a huge explosion occurs, Groot does not hesitate for a second and sacrifices himself to save his friends by creating a large vegetable ball around them.
Having absorbed the entire blast with his own body, he seems to have disintegrated for good. However, when one of his twigs – respectfully replanted by Rocket Racoon – gradually begins to move, then to dance, we can witness the return of the character, in the form of… Baby Groot.
Watching him expire on an operating table, after taking a bullet from the Winter Soldier in the second installment of Captain Americawe thought that was well and truly over for the Director of SHIELD (and founder of the Avengers).
Fortunately, a few sequences later, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff noted with relief that Fury had only taken advantage of his accident to simulate his disappearance. “When you are dead, you can no longer be murdered,” he told them.
Pierced by Loki’s scepter in Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (whose death had nevertheless allowed superheroes to forget their quarrels and unite) is back in Marvel: Agents of SHIELD!
As we learn in the series, at the request of Nick Fury, Coulson was indeed transported to a specialized medical service of the organization for emergency treatment. After painful operations, he was finally able to get away with significant sequelae.
half of humanity
The Winter Soldier, the Falcon, Black Panther, Groot, Wanda, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, the Wasp… but also half of the population of the universe !
When Thanos snaps his fingers at the end ofAvengers: Infinity Warit’s downright one in two living beings who lost their lives… while waiting for the surviving superheroes to come together to restore the situation 5 years later, in Avengers: Endgame.
