Why do we love so much on Fridays? The answer is obvious: we have a weekend full of opportunities, days where we can hang out with friends, have fun or do nothing.
The weekend means r-e-l-a-x, and for most people, this means Monday means d-r-e-a-d.
Fortunately, some simple adjustments to your normal routine can make your mood think it’s the best day of the week.
Here are four ways that Monday and Friday feel:
1. Preparation on Friday and Sunday
Before you leave your desk on Friday afternoon, take the last few minutes of your day to ease the shock for your future Monday self. Write down a list of loose ends and then prioritize the things that need to be done so that when you get back to work on Monday you can easily dive in.
Get involved too inspirational note on your desk to greet you when you arrive at the beginning of the week. You are great at your job; It’s going to be a great week! Or, even better, remember why you like this job in the first place. Can you believe that you will be paid to do ___? Be thankful! (Sounds cheesy? Try it just once and tell us it didn’t lighten your mood …)
Preparations on Sunday evening can also improve your assembly. Give yourself a few minutes more time to sleep by showering and ironing your clothes and getting them ready for use the night before. Also remember that good nutrition is directly related to your energy level and mood. So prepare for one high protein breakfast (i.e., a hard-boiled egg or take-away yogurt).
2. Plan for luck
Having something to look forward to makes getting up on Monday a lot easier. There is no rule that says all your fun has to be saved for the weekends!
Try to arrange a standing appointment with friends on Monday evening. To improve your mood even more, Include exercise. An evening walk with local friends can make you feel great mentally as well as physically.
Can’t get anyone to break out of their Monday routines? You can always look forward to something at home. Try turning your favorite show on Monday night into a movie night or DVR and wait until Monday to watch it.
3. Dress for energy
The pick-me-up power of a great outfit is undeniable!
Good looks strengthen our mood and our self-confidence. So much of that Monday blues are mental determinations that we impose on ourselves, which means that we have the power to make changes. Change things by wearing your favorite outfit on Monday and give your mood a chance to compete with the other, most popular days of the week.
Is your work wardrobe lacking excitement? Your clothes can still have a positive effect just because of the colors. Studies show that wearing red or purple increases energy and green or yellow can put you in a noticeably happier mood.
4. Just say no
One of the things that make Friday so great is that you don’t have to do much for the next few days. Freedom and flextime are instant mood enhancers, however these advantages don’t just have to be held back for the weekends.
Treat yourself to the same luxury on Mondays by opting out of something you normally feel committed to. Whether you’re doing laundry, cooking dinner, or checking your bank account, give a free pass Monday night and enjoy the convenience of knowing your limits.
How do you get through the dreaded assembly? Try one of these tips if you need help making Monday a little more bearable!
